Valor Faith, Safety Security, and Readiness Training 

COURSE OVERVIEW

The Valor Faith, Safety, Security, and Readiness Course is designed to equip church safety and security teams with the mindset, knowledge, and practical skills necessary to prevent, prepare for, and respond to active threats and critical incidents in a faith-based environment.

This course emphasizes:

  • Situational awareness and threat recognition

  • Coordinated response during high-stress incidents

  • Life-saving medical actions

  • Post-incident recovery and continuity of operations

  • Stewardship, leadership, and legal considerations

NEW – Preliminary Site Assessment As part of this course, participants will receive guidance on conducting a Preliminary Site Assessment, including:

  • Identification of high-risk areas and access points

  • Evaluation of ingress and egress routes

  • Assessment of lighting, visibility, and crowd flow

  • Review of existing safety practices and emergency plans

  • Practical recommendations to enhance deterrence, response capability, and life safety

Chief Juan Gonzalez, Ret.

Founder & Lead Instructor | Valor Law Enforcement Training & Consulting LLC

Retired Chief of Police Juan Gonzalez is the Founder and Lead Instructor of Valor Law Enforcement Training & Consulting LLC, providing specialized law enforcement training, tactical instruction, and safety and security consulting to local, school, county, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies.

 

Chief Gonzalez retired in 2020 as the Chief of Police for the City of San Juan, Texas, following a distinguished law enforcement career spanning more than 37 years. During his career, he also served as the Regional SWAT Commander for the San Juan Law Enforcement Emergency Regional Response Team (LEERRT), where he provided leadership and operational oversight for specialized tactical responses throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

 

Chief Gonzalez is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the National Tactical Officers Association (NTOA) Command College. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and is a Certified Public Manager. He holds a Texas Master Peace Officer License and is an Advanced TCOLE Instructor.

National & International Training Experience

Chief Gonzalez is a nationally and internationally experienced law enforcement trainer who provides instruction in specialized tactical operations, active-threat response, officer safety, leadership, and critical-incident management.

 

The Valor instructor cadre has trained law enforcement officers throughout Texas, specialized SWAT/SRT teams across Texas and the United States, and internationally, including members of the Honduras National Police and officers from Paraguay's CETI-SWAT Special Operations Group. Chief Gonzalez is an ALERRT Adjunct Instructor and has extensive experience training law enforcement officers in active-shooter and active-threat response. 

 

Through Valor, Chief Gonzalez continues to provide subject-matter expertise, training, and consulting services to law enforcement agencies, specialized units, school-based law enforcement programs, and public-safety organizations.

Tactical & Specialized Instructor Experience

Chief Gonzalez is a Force Science Analyst and tactical instructor with extensive intermediate and advanced instructor training in specialized tactics and weapons, tactical firearms and hostage barricade incidents. His VALOR teams training philosophy emphasizes the integration of sound tactics, sound decision-making, legal considerations, officer safety, leadership, and realistic scenario-based training.

Regional SWAT Leadership (Founder of the Law Enforcement Emergency Regional Response Team) 

Throughout his career, Chief Gonzalez has provided operational expertise, training, leadership, and guidance to local, county, state, and federal specialized response teams. As Regional SWAT Commander for LEERRT, Chief Gonzalez helped lead a multi-agency approach to critical incidents and violent-crime operations along the South Texas border against the Mexican Drug Organizations, operating in south Texas. The team and its law enforcement partnerships were featured by local, state, national, and international media for their work addressing violent crime and supporting efforts to disrupt and dismantle criminal organizations, transnational gangs, and drug-cartel operations in the Rio Grande Valley. That operational experience continues to shape Valor's approach to tactical training: preparing officers and teams for the realities of complex, rapidly evolving, high-risk incidents.
