Service Description

This 8-hour course is designed to train police officers how to properly and safely deploy ballistic shields on patrol, citizen & officer down rescues, special operations, active school threats, and special assignments. TUpon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Identify the nomenclature, components, construction, and ballistic protection ratings of commonly used ballistic shields. Explain the capabilities and limitations of ballistic shields during first-responder operations. Demonstrate proper shield inspection, preparation, carrying positions, grip, stance, and deployment. Demonstrate safe and effective one-handed weapon manipulation while operating a ballistic shield. Demonstrate static and dynamic live-fire techniques while maintaining appropriate shield coverage. Demonstrate proper individual and team movement with a ballistic shield. Integrate ballistic shields into patrol response and immediate-action tactics during critical incidents. Demonstrate shield deployment during hallway, doorway, corner, and room-clearing operations. Apply ballistic shield techniques during active-threat and active-shooter response. Demonstrate appropriate shield positioning, communication, and coordination within a contact team. Integrate ballistic shields into officer-down and civilian rescue operations. Demonstrate techniques for operating a shield during low-light and reduced-visibility conditions. Identify considerations for integrating handguns, patrol rifles, lighting systems, and other agency-approved equipment with shield operations. Apply appropriate decision-making, threat assessment, and use-of-force considerations during shield deployments. Demonstrate proper muzzle discipline, target identification, backdrop awareness, and firearms safety while working around other officers. Apply ballistic shield skills during scenario-based critical-incident exercises. Demonstrate the ability to transition between shield movement, weapon deployment, communication, and tactical problem-solving. Complete practical exercises demonstrating safe, effective, and coordinated ballistic shield deployment during first-responder operations.
