Valor Church Active Threat Response Training Course Description; Church Active Threat Response Training is a comprehensive, church-focused safety course designed to equip pastors, staff, ushers, greeters, and volunteer safety teams with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent, recognize, and respond to active threats and violent incidents within a house of worship. This training emphasizes early threat recognition, sound decision-making under stress, life-saving actions, and coordinated response—while remaining respectful of the church environment and faith-based mission. The course avoids fear-based messaging and focuses on preparedness, stewardship, and protecting life. Participants will learn how to respond during high-stress incidents using simple, realistic actions that align with church values, legal considerations, and best practices used by public safety professionals. No prior law enforcement or security experience is required. Training Duration Options: -4-Hour Preparedness Course (Ushers, Greeters, Ministry Leaders) -6–8 Hour Enhanced Course (Safety Teams / Church Security Ministries) Required Materials & Equipment: Provided by Valor Training Outline Modules; Module 1 – Purpose, Mindset, and Stewardship Module 2 – Understanding Active Threats in Churches Module 3 – Prevention & Early Intervention Module 4 – Response During an Active Threat Module 5 – Medical Response & Life-Saving Actions Module 6 – After the Incident: Recovery & Support Module 7 – Roles, Responsibilities & Church Emergency Planning (Optional / Advanced) Course Summary: Church Active Threat Response Training provides church leaders, staff, and volunteers with practical knowledge and confidence to prevent, recognize, and respond to active threats while preserving the welcoming and faith-centered mission of the church. This course emphasizes preparedness as stewardship, focusing on early awareness, sound decision-making under stress, and life-saving actions that protect congregants, staff, and visitors. By the conclusion of the course, participants will have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities during an emergency and be better prepared to respond in a manner that prioritizes life safety, compassion, and coordinated action. This course will be taught by Valor Lead Trainer; Ret. Chief of Police | Swat. Commander J. Gonzalez. Ret Chief. Gonzalez has trained hundreds of faith-based members since 2000 on this special topic.
