Service Description
Course Overview: This 8-hour instructor-led course gives patrol and tactical officers practical, hands-on skills to safely employ ballistic shields in patrol, entry, high risk vehicle stops, active shooter response and officer / citizen rescue scenarios. Topics include shield selection and maintenance, carry positions and transitions, movement under cover, partner integration with pistol/rifle teams, shield-assisted entry and casualty extraction, and legal/use-of-force considerations. Learning Objectives: • Identify shield types, components, and ballistic ratings. • Demonstrate safe carry positions and transitions. • Perform movement drills using the shield as cover. • Integrate shield with partner weapon teams and comms. • Execute shield-assisted entry and rescue drills. -Perform inspection, cleaning, and storage procedures. • Describe legal documentation and use-of-force considerations. • Apply ballistic shield tactics during Active Shooter Response integration. • Conduct Live Fire Range Drills incorporating ballistic shield deployment. This course will be taught by Valor lead trainer | instructor (Ret) Chief/Regional Swat Commander Juan Gonzalez. Prerequisite: Active Law Enforcement Officer. Officers are required to pass a ballistic shield shooting course for certification. Equipment: Handgun and/or Rifle Ballistic Shield | Weapon Systems | Duty Gear | 200 Rounds Handgun | 50 Rounds Rifle | Ballistic Gear/ Helmet | Eye Ear Protection | Red or Blue Training Gun. Limited NLTA kits will be available on site.
