Service Description
This 4 hour course is designed to train police officers how to properly and safely use temporary restraints on subjects, and suspects in a CQB environment. This course will cover general handcuffing control principles, resistance control continuum, protocols and best practices. An overview of officers assaulted and killed in the line of duty while deploying temporary restraints on subjects and suspect will be discussed. This course will cover the four types of resistance officers encounter while performing their jobs. Officers will be trained on basic, intermediate and advanced handcuffing techniques while the subject/suspect is in a prone, standing, high-knee, low-knee, and/or in confined space (inside a vehicle). Officers will be trained on different subject control tactics with one officer and with multiple officers. Officers will be trained on how to recognize pre-incident attack indicators before, during and after suspects have been temporarily restrained. Officers will be trained on how to read compliance and measure compliance before applying handcuffs on legally detained subjects/suspects. This Valor Tactical Handcuffing Course will be taught by Valor lead trainer | instructor (Ret) Chief/Regional Swat Commander Juan Gonzalez. Prerequisite: Active Law Enforcement Officer. Officers are required to participate in all simunition drills and exercises. Equipment: Assigned duty gear, training blue/red/yellow training gun, handcuffs, flex-cuffs, any additional temporary restraints issued by the agency. Valor has limited NLTA kits available on site for force-on-force scenarios.
