Patrol Rifle Operator 8 Hour Course

Service Description

Course Purpose To provide officers with the knowledge, skills, and judgment required to safely deploy a patrol rifle during high-risk incidents, active threats, and precision engagements beyond handgun capability. The Patrol Rifle Course will cover nomenclature, basic breakdown/ cleaning, maintenance, zeroing (iron sights only), movement, stoppages, reloads, long and near shooting. Learning Objectives -Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: -Explain the role and legal justification for patrol rifle deployment in law enforcement operations. -Demonstrate safe handling, loading, unloading, and clearing of the patrol rifle. -Identify patrol rifle nomenclature, components, and function. -Demonstrate proper carry methods and ready positions for patrol deployment. -Deploy the patrol rifle safely from a patrol vehicle. -Demonstrate accurate rifle marksmanship at patrol-relevant distances. -Apply positional shooting techniques (standing, kneeling, prone, barricade). -Demonstrate effective target discrimination and threat identification. -Explain over-penetration, backdrop awareness, and liability considerations. -Integrate rifle deployment into active shooter and high-risk call response. Course is designed to teach and certify patrol officers how to properly and safely deploy an AR-15 | M-4 style rifle. This class will be conducted in the classroom and on the range. Students will learn the seven fundamentals of marksmanship, basic weapons handling, safety, and achieve speed and accuracy with the patrol rifle. Equipment Required: Eye and ear protection AR 15 | M4 platform rifle (.223/ 5.56) 200 rounds rifle ammunition 3 mags/ 30 round capacity Cleaning kit Handgun and duty gear (typically worn while on duty) 100 rounds handgun ammunition Weather appropriate clothing.
