Service Description
Course Goal To provide law enforcement trainers, patrol supervisors, school resource officers, SWAT-SRT trainers with the knowledge, skills, and instructional methods necessary to train officers in manual and ballistic (shotgun) breaching techniques for active threats, and tactical operations. The importance of manual and ballistic breaching for officers—especially after the Uvalde tragedy—comes down to lessons learned about time, access, and lives at risk. Learning Objectives By the end of this course, participants will be able to: • Define the legal framework and liability considerations associated with forced entry under Texas and federal law. • Identify and explain the components and functions of manual and ballistic breaching tools, including shotguns, and breaching ammunition. • Demonstrate proper setup, positioning, and sequencing for both manual and ballistic breaching operations. • Safely deploy shotgun breaching techniques against various target materials, adhering to agency safety protocols. • Evaluate scene security, team placement, backstop considerations, and misfire contingencies. • Develop and deliver a 20-minute breaching block of instruction using adult learning strategies. • Conduct and score a breaching skills practical to TCOLE instructor standards. • Demonstrate proper techniques for manual breaching using rams, Halligan tools, and other equipment. • Demonstrate proper techniques for ballistic (shotgun) breaching. • Assess target doors and select the most effective breaching method. • Conduct safety briefings and supervise breaching exercises. • Develop and implement training plans and policy for their respective agencies. Equipment Needed: all assigned duty gear, ballistic gear, ballistic shield, manual and mechanical breaching tools, .12 gauge shotgun,(optional breaching shotgun), 25 rounds buckshot, 5 Def-Tec TKO rounds (optional), or 10 Royal arms FTR-P1 Training Ammunition breaching rounds, 200 rounds handgun, 100 rounds rifle, 100 NLTA (Sim Rounds) , eye and ear protection, gloves. This course will be taught by Valor Lead Trainer Ret. Chief | Swat Commander Juan Gonzalez and Instructor Cadre.
